March Meet Postponed - March 14, 2006, Clutch Girl

Welcome to the Lil Nate Blog page. It seems to be all the rage and the fans seem to want it - so here you have it. Clutch Girl (that's me) will be handling most of these duties. However, I do intend to wrangle the guys into helping me out on occasion. I mean how else will you get to know them ?

As most of you have probably heard, the March Meet was postponed from last weekend to this coming weekend, March 17 - 19. Goodguys cited the ominous weather forecast as the reason. Were they right ? For my two cents worth - yea, probably. I live about 2 hours due west from Famoso in the foothills of eastern San Luis Obispo County on a large ranch at an elevation of about 1500 feet. I am also about one hour from the coast. I can report firsthand that it did indeed snow at my house all three days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). This was VERY unusual for this part of California, where our biggest weather problems are usually wildfires. I woke up each morning to the rain and around about 7 am it changed to snow. The temp gauge outside said 36 degrees. Each day it continued to snow until 9 am, the sun would break thru the clouds, the snow would melt and my day would go on. Sunday, though, it snowed HARD….for the full two hours ! The snow stuck and started piling up - completely covering the ground and the trees. This was a fair amount of snow in my book, but to those used to this stuff, it would be called a 'dusting.' Whatever you want to call it - I built a fire in my woodstove, made a cup of coffee and sat in my back room with the big windows and just watched. To me it was peaceful and magical. Of course, I had to go out and stand in the snow and found myself giggling like a small child as the snow fell all around me. I heard one of the red tail hawks that live in the nearby trees calling out. It's tone just a little different as he was unsure of the changes in his world on this morning.

My cat however, had a different take. Have you ever seen a cat ski ? I have. It happened this past Sunday. Conan (that is my male cat) sat at the sliding glass door watching it snow along with me and he seemed like he wanted to go outside. Since I usually put the cats out in the morning before I go to work, I opened the door and he bounded right on out. That is … until he landed on the snow. Poor cat went into immediate lock-up and started sliding thru the snow. Yep, the cat skied right there in my back yard ! Then he took off through the creek bed and I didn't see him for about an hour. I'm not sure if he was embarrassed or scared.

While not quite the March Meet weekend I had envisioned, it was enjoyable nonetheless. Bugsy tells me I need to move back to America. But that's a story for another time.
