Thanks to J. Berry from Kentucky. His question is, "When we got to the track last year at Pomona, at 8:30AM, we noticed that your pits were all set up and ready to go for the day. When do you and the crew get there and how long does it take to get ready?" Often the first thing is to get into the pit area with the truck and trailer; we will wait for the officials to take us to the area where we will be parked, this may take an hour or two. For a three-day race such as the Good Guys events, we arrive the day before to set everything up and get the car tech'd in. Usually it is a laid back day talking to old friends and competitors, and VRA staff. There are meetings to go to and Nate will do some interviews, so the day is broken up and easy going. We are fortunate that the tech staff comes to us in the pits instead of the old days where we had to pull the car out to a spot somewhere else to get a safety clearance. We will put up the canopy first for the shade then lay out the floor, followed by the tables, toolboxes, and spectator chairs in what is a rather small guest area. Love those sponsors! Generally it takes about four to five hours to set up the "Circus" for the weekend as you see it on race-day. Then its time to bring out and service the car. How long to take down and pack the trailer depends on how you did on race day. Last year at Pomona we had a runner-up finish in 100-degree weather. We finished up on Monday morning… late Monday morning. As with the car itself, we all know our responsibilities to set up and tear down so its not all that confusing, anymore, change something and as with anything else mass confusion rules. Thank you for your interest in our program and keep the questions coming.
See you at the races…….
